Teal/Aqua Holo Comparison

*contains press samples

Hi friends!!  Teal/aqua holos are some of my favorites and I realized the other day that I've amassed a little collection of them.  Of course, I was curious about how much they each have in common.

They all look somewhat similar in their bottles, with slight variations.  The two Celestials bear the closest resemblance, with Inception pulling just a little more blue, and Energy and Saint George look surprisingly similar in their bottles, the biggest differences being the type and spacing of the holo particles.  On the nail, it's all a surprisingly, in all but one case, different story.

Jade Energy is the most tightly packed holo, with the strongest and most discernible rainbow.  It's also the thinnest and least pigmented.  It's jelly based and green leaning, more teal than aqua.  Great formula.  Two coats.  (full review HERE)

Celestial Cosmetics Ocean Mist is obviously linear but with a less tightly packed rainbow.  It's a deep peacock blue, pigmented and cool toned.  You all know I love Celestial's formula.  Two coats and not a hint of sheer in sight on this one.  (full review HERE)

I expected Celestial Cosmetics Inception to be a nearly spot-on copy of Ocean Mist but boy, was I wrong.  It's touted as a neon and is the brightest, and bluest, of the four.  It's also obviously linear, with the same saturation as Ocean Mist, but with a more monochromatic "rainbow".  Two coats.  (full review HERE)

a-England Saint George is really in a league of its own and I knew it was when I included it.  It's the only metallic finish in the bunch, the only scattered holo, and by far the darkest and most color saturated, even as the holo flash is primarily tonal shades and not as pronounced.  One coat.  (full review HERE)

For fun, I decided to paint Inception on my thumb over white, just because I was curious.

The white base does make the color pop a bit more but it does nothing for the holo and I still prefer it on its own.  Here's one more shot of them all, just for fun and because they're so darned pretty :)

    1. Comparison posts have a tendency to do that, lol :) Ocean Mist is awesome. Personally, I find myself wanting to paint myself with Saint George.

  4. What an awesome comparison - isn't it amazing, how different all of them are once on the nail? Looking at the four of them the Celestials are the most summery - maybe just a tad more blue leaning than the NCLA latest releases. Great post <3

    1. I agree, sis-- teal is for fall and aqua for summer but you know how it is when your months of unclouded sunlight are few ;)

  5. I love, love St. George - it's even worth the staining. And I have several Celestials, so how did I manage to miss those gorgeous blues? Must need my eyes examined (or my head, lol)!

    1. I don't even think Saint George is bad, staining wise (I'd wear it anyway). Inception hasn't been released yet :) Check color4nails.com on July 1.
