Fun With Butter London Lippies

Hi, guys and gals!  I've got to say these Butter London Lippies have been some of my favorite things this year.  I've always been more of a lipstick rather than gloss gal, but the idea of wearing my favorite polish colors on my lips just sounds totally cool.
As soon as Butter London's fall lineup of lippy and polish sets was introduced, I knew I had to have Come to Bed Red, to complement my favorite red polish.  Along with the more traditional color, though, came some matching glittery lippy sets, and I decided to be a little adventurous and take a chance on West End Wonderland.

So this is Come to Bed Red.   It's a really difficult thing to apply properly and looks much better not so close up.  Here's my current facebook profile self-portrait.

Come to Bed Red is killer, gorgeous, and Christmas party perfect, until it starts to bleed all over the place.  Yes, if only it had stayed put all night, like after I took those rollers out....  I dusted my lips with powder before I applied it and it still made a mess by the time dinner was served.  How do you keep red gloss from doing that?  Maybe I should try a lipliner with this thing.  I absolutely adore this color but it is such a pain in the neck that it nearly makes it not worth wearing.

Here's West End Wonderland, a pale gold gloss with red flecks.  Kind of funny by itself, but it smells nice-- it's got a pleasant kind of cherry vanilla scent to it.

I don't get it?  Maybe I'm just not fashion forward enough, or maybe it needs a really extreme eye to go with, and I don't do extreme eyes.  I did, however, think it would be kind of pretty over a blotted down Come to Bed Red.

I like it!  The red brings out the gold sheen and West End Wonderland looks like I think it's supposed to, festive and shimmery, rather than ghastly with a sprinkling of red glitter.  I think I might wear it to work.
If you're wondering about formula, these lippies are thick, pigmented, and longlasting, more akin to a lipstick than a gloss in some ways.  They're glossy, but not as slick and not as sticky.  Lippies are available for $17 by themselves, and selected colors are $25 in gift sets with their matching polish through Butter London's website and at Ulta.

Two more things.  Thank you to you gals who shared your thoughts and feelings on the troubling events of the past week with me.  Sharing is good and talking it out is good.  You gals are cool. <3

Aaaand, my Merry Max Factor giveaway has ended, the winner chosen, and contact has been made :) Congrats Stephanie H., your package WILL go out today (only because the p.o. was closed on Saturday...). ;)

Thank you for reading, and have yourselves a beautiful day. :)

  2. I agree! The layered look of Come To Bed Red + West End Wonderland is gorgeous! I'm a big fan of red lips and I tend to wear them on special occasions. I've had my fair share of bleeding lips and found the perfect combination. I use the Cover Girl lip stain marker in the dark berry color first. It applies really well and doesn't bleed at all. In fact, it may last another day or two unless you really scrub it off. And since it's a marker it is literally mess proof. Then I layered a sheer red lip gloss over it so if that does move around a bit it won't leave much of a pigment. My go-to red gloss is a bright fire engine red Chanel that cost me a fortune but I felt like it was a classy must have :)

    1. Ooh, I never thought of a lip stain. I need to check that line out. I LOVE red lips, too, and I'm acquiring a decent collection of different looks and I think something matte would be fun. That Chanel gloss sounds amazing. Sometimes stuff like that is so worth it. ;)

  3. Both look great on you! Try filling in your lips with lip liner and use a clear lip liner outside of the lips (it provides a waxy barrier). Urban Decay lip liner in Ozone is pretty great.

  5. Hi Liesl, oh I love those glossy lippies - bet those would be all over my face in no time - too many fine lines around my lips, and yes a true sign of age ;-)

    1. I mean sign of age with ME - am well past my mid-forties and I started to wear more neutral lip colors about two years ago

    1. Thank you :} I'm a little shy about them because of the closeups... just like nails, it'll take some practice to be worthy of the macro, lool. Thank you for your kind words.

  10. I kinda think its funny that you don't get that color only because I own Nars Orgasm lip gloss that looks very very similar to that and it is my absolute favorite gloss. And yes, I typically wear it when I'm doing a more dramatic eye.

    1. You know, part of the reason I picked up the NARS Walk On the Wild Side set was for the Orgasm mini, but I tried it on and didn't get it, either, lol... I've been meaning to play around with it some more beacause it looks so pretty in the tube. I can def see it being awesome with a really dark, smoky eye. I've got such circles that I feel like it's best that I keep my eye looks light, but I've alway wanted to try a super dramatic eye.

  11. I have the Butter London Snog lippy and while I love the color and how long it last, I absolutely HATE the scent. I heard that they changed it-- how was the scent/taste (if there was any). While I guess $17 is kind of mid-range in terms how much you can spend on a lipstick/gloss, I'm loathe to spend that much on something I won't wear if I don't like the scent.

Love the Come to Bed Reb + West End Wonderland combo-- so gorgeous!

    1. Interesting, I thought it might have been a fall/holiday thing. My Snog lippy doesn't have any scent, but both these do. I didn't notice a taste, at all, and the scent was barely noticeable once I had the stuff on my lips.

    2. I might have to go to Ulta or Nordstrom and play with them again. I think Butter London must have revamped the formula after the first run, because they were pretty strongly scented-- that's good to hear! I'm way more likely to buy one if it doesn't have a strong scent.
