I've always been drawn to unusual lipcolors, even if they get minimal
wear time when I'm outside the comfort of my own home. When I first
started seeing photos of L'Oreal's spring collection, Versailles
Romance, one Balm shade in particular jumped out at me, the pastel mint
green tinted Sundays By The Seine. I ended up loving it and, being
curious about the more traditional colors in the set, picked up the pale
pink, Come By My Windows.
Both have a lovely, soft vanilla sugar cookie scent and glide on
beautifully. They provide a good amount of moisturization and last as
long as any traditional lip balm. The scent does not translate into
flavor, so I haven't been eating these off my lips, lol. The color
payoff is the biggest difference between these.
If you saw the pretty, minty green of Sundays By the Seine and got all excited thinking your lips will be tinted that color, you weren't altogether wrong. It is a balm, so the color is going to be very, very sheer, and so, pleasantly wearable.
The green is barely perceptible, but it's there, and it doesn't make for a garish or extreme look at all. It's just a nice, glossy, pretty balm with a hint of shimmer that lightens your natural lip shade a bit, if anything. I like to go makeup free often, and Sundays By the Seine is a beautiful and fun alternative to my standard lip balms, without depositing too much additional color.
Come By My Windows is the lightest pink of the collection of six shades. I was expecting something to boost my natural color a bit, but this didn't exactly do that.
If your lips have any sort of color to them, this one will wash them out. It likes to settle into those fine little lip lines. It reminds me of that 1980's California girl pale lips against tan skin look, or even a pinkish zinc oxide treatment. Either way, it's no bueno for me. Come By My Windows has more pigmentation than Sundays, and that somehow makes it a little less moisturizing, too.
So there you go! Sundays By the Seine is a total winner in my book, so much so that I'm considering a backup of this limited edition balm. The Versailles Romance collection is available now wherever L'Oreal products are sold, and the Balms retail for around $7.99.
Questions? Comments? Tried any of the Versailles Romance Balms, or any of L'Oreal's regular line Balms? What's the weather like in your neck o' the woods today?
Thanks for reading! ;)

WOW! I wouldn't have guessed that green would turn out like that. Pretty cool if you ask me:) Great review!
ReplyDeleteRight?! It's actually quite pretty. And thank you :)
DeleteGonna have to go out and hunt down the green one. I don't wear anything other than lip balm and you're making me want this. Great review!
ReplyDeleteSaweet! It's totally worth it. :)
DeleteGreat post Liesl!!! I love the minty Balm!!! And I am with you for the second Balm you showed!! My lips are nearly white and trust me, those pinks give it a horrible, horrible cast, not to mention settling most of it in the lines of my lips - BUT I have to share something big for me with you: I bought myself two (yes 2) lip gloss - one in nude, one in coral. They come unscented (which is a must for me) and I finally found a brand that does not make my lips peel within minutes of applying - they are from Dior, yes they are expensive and yes, my monthly Beauty budget got emptied prematurely thanks to my splurge. This is to say "Thank you" for having me turn my head to lip decoration again, I am soooo happy with them xxx
ReplyDelete:) :) :) This makes me smile so much, sis :) See, I can't even stop typing emoticons, lolol ;) It's pretty amazing that you found an unscented gloss at all, lol. Which Diors did you get? I remember being intrigued by the Addict line when that first arrived on the scene. That is wonderful that you've finally found a gloss that plays nice with you. Totally worth the splurge, if you ask me :) Enjoy them!
DeleteHi sis, they're just numbered 413 (rose tinted nude with heavy sparkle) and 732 (soft coral with tons of sparkle) - hmmm maybe I just will be over budget this month - too bad ;-) xxx
DeleteI've never seen a blue balm, that is so intriguing! I figured it'd make your lips some ridiculous color but it doesn't at all!
ReplyDeleteI know it! It's like, the easiest thing in the world to wear. :)
DeleteI saw that green in the store and was definitely intrigued. Thanks for the review and swatches... it looks really cool on you! :-)
ReplyDelete~ Yun
Thanks, Yun! It's just a nice little whisper of shimmer. So pretty.
DeleteI saw the green, was curious about that but I figured it would be sheer enough to wear on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah. I've read a few people disappointed that it's not more pigmented, but it's a balm, for crying out loud, lol.
DeleteOoh, I like the green one! Would definitely love to have that one! Thanks for sharing your swatches.
ReplyDeleteYou betcha, tee hee ♥ The green one's absolutely worth having.
DeleteI went to Rite Aid last night to get the blue one and it's all out!! All there was was the pink one. :( Going to try Freddys this weekend though. *crosses fingers* I LOVE the blue polish they put out in this collection though.
ReplyDeleteOoh, let me know if you get it and I'll bring over Zoya Blu to compare.
DeleteI'm surprised at how much I like Sundays By the Seine! I love the sheen that it leaves and that it's not actually green.
ReplyDeleteExactly :) It's fun, pretty, and wearable :)
DeleteI read on another blog that bluish lip glosses make a person's teeth appear whiter. So I think I might try this one, despite the fact it's more green and actually very sheer! The fact that it's sugar cookie scented may have something to do with my inclination towards this balm. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, cool! I should have posted a smiley shot. The scent is SUPER YUMMIE!!!
DeleteIt surely is!! I noticed it a lot more today than on Saturday when I bought it. I believe this is for two reasons - 1) my sense of smell was messed up after having water repeatedly shot up my nose from the crazy water park slides, & 2) pretty sure I put this balm on at least 10 times today!
DeleteHi! I was wondering if they still have this!?
ReplyDeleteHi! I was wondering if they still have this!?
ReplyDeleteHi! :) Some stores still have a few. It's just a matter of looking around, though.
DeleteWhat stores do they sell Sundays by the Seine?? I am probably too late... :(
ReplyDeleteWalgreens, Rite Aid, Fred Meyer, possibly Ulta... and sadly, I think you are too late but it's always worth checking out the clearance bins. I've seen some of the Versailles Romance polishes on clearance recently. :)
