Zoya Frida + Essence Holo Topping, Please! = Orly Sparkling Garbage, Sort Of....

You've maybe heard of Orly Sparkling Garbage, the teal jelly packed with scattered holo bits standout polish of this summer's Mash Up collection.  I've been obsessed with these photos by The Sparkling Hoard and have been excited to get my hands on this hot little number... until I realized that I could create a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Here's Zoya Frida, from fall 2012's Gloss collection, three coats, and Essence Special Effect Topper in Holo Topping, Please!, one coat (thanks a million, Christine ♥♥).

It's not exactly the same.  Frida's got a darker, bluer jelly base than Sparkling Garbage and the holo bits in Holo Topping, Please! are interspersed with soft, light mauve shimmers in a clear base, so the look is a little more subdued.  I'm still really happy with how this turned out.

I suppose it means you have a freaking lot of nail polish when you can come up with a recipe (again, thanks, Christine ;) ♥) similar to something already out there, lol.  I'm excited to have a fun new way to wear Frida and I LOVE how soft and twinkly this is.  Lemming satisfied.

Thanks for reading!!  Have a lovely day. ♥

    1. And I didn't word that correctly...I love Sparkling Garbage but I never get tired of Frida, so your combo is what I love. UGH...too much caffeine. :P

    2. Lolol, you're so cute :) Scrangie and her descriptions... She said Frida resembled Nyquil so I have some sort of personal deal wearing it alone, but I love using it with other polishes.

  3. Sparking Garbage is simply beautiful and I want it (even though I probably won't use it much). LOL That's crazy, I know...but I want it. It's just too pretty!

You did a good job with your dupe though.

    1. I try to choose my polishes according to how much I think I'll wear them, too, but some things are too sparkly shiny pretty to pass up, lol.

    1. You are the sweetest :) I'm loving this topper, it's sparkly and mesmerizing even on a grey and rainy day like today. I can only imagine it in the sunshine and I can't wait to wear this duo when it warms up again (posibly by the end of the week, lol). Hugs :)

  7. Frida is such a gorgeous polish! It's pretty in an understated way, but it goes so well with a sparkle topping/sandwich. You've reminded me that I must pull mine out and wear it again soon. :-)

  9. Before I got Sparkling Garbage, I was like "ehh, maybe Color Club Holiday Splendor is close enough, or I can just do some sort of sandwich with Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond" but then I:

    1. Saw Sparkling Garbage in person and died
    2. Reminded myself that I still haven't done a jelly sandwich and likely would never get around to replicating Sparkling Garbage

...so I bought Sparkling Garbage lol. Good job having a stronger willpower and less jelly-sandwich-related laziness than me! I was wondering what this sort of thing would look like!

    1. Rofl :) Well, here's the thing. I have never actually seen Sparkling Garbage in person. My Ulta is currently out. They should be getting more in this weekend. So, it has nothing to do with willpower and everything to do with instant gratification. I suspect, once I see it in person, I will succumb to its powers. Shine On Crazy Diamond.... I don't know why I don't own that one. I love the song and that's reason enough, but it's stark raving gorgeous, on top of it. Get on that jelly sandwich, girlie! They're so fun. :)

    2. Yeah, I think Sparkling Garbage might be the runaway hit from the Mash Up collection, all the displays I've seen either have none of it left, or just a few bottles. I think you'll succumb to it, too :-p

I'm addicted to Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond, it's like instant stars/space/fairy magic/whatever...it's just so pretty. Definitely get it!

And ugh, I know, I need to get on the jelly sandwich bandwagon. I just remembered that I actually have done one sandwich, but it was just a swatch on an accent nail, so I completely forgot it ever happened lol.

  10. Wow, this is wonderfully dreamy! It reminds me of mermaid scales, or something...like the mermaid outfit I had for one of my Barbies as a little girl. :D
The way you captured Frida in your photos makes it look like pure liquid awesomeness! WANT. I can't even describe it...it kinda reminds me of a teal oil spill?

    1. Awww, I'm glad I was able to call to mind a happy leetle childhood memory with my nailses. Thanks for the compliment on my pictures, too. It does look awesome but it was pure accident (and the fact that I've used this a few times, so there's extra headspace in the bottle, lol).

  13. I own Sparkling Garbage and you did a great job recreating an almost dupe for it! I actually kind of love this one more since SG is pretty sheer and definitely needs some good undies ( which I have yet to decide on! )
