Maybelline Color Show Holographic Blue Blaze

Maybelline's got a new collection out that looks to move into the core line.  A lot of them are reissues from last fall's duochrome collection, but they've got them marketed as holographic.  Um, no... The band around the cap is, though, and for some reason, I found that very amusing.  Maybe the labeling refers to the little band, in which case it is in fact NOT false advertisement.

At any rate, my somewhat irrational amusement drove me to pick up one of the non-reissued colors (new, perhaps?), a cold and beautiful steel blue metallic called Blue Blaze.

Metallics are pretty easy to apply anyway, but Blue Blaze has a super nice and easy formula to work with.  This went on perfectly in two coats with minimal brushstokes.  The brush is pretty standard, neither too big nor too small, non tapered, and completely round.  I like not having to find the correct way to angle some of the shaped brushes so they fit optimally on my nail-- basically, I've got no complaints about this polish, at all.

Blue Blaze is a lovely neutral and one of the more unique colors in Maybelline's Color Show lineup.  The "holographic" collection is available for $3.99 each wherever Maybelline products are sold.  This one's totally worth checking out.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day! ♥

  2. The holo fan in me would have been disappointed that the prism is barely visible, but the color itself is really gorgeous and makes up for it

    1. I was disappointed very briefly when I first saw the display, but this one grew on me anyway, lol. Can you imagine how quickly a major brugstore brand holo would fly off the shelves?!

  3. Its funny that they label this holographic when it has no holo to it, lol. Its a pretty metallic shade regardless :)

    1. I know, like they totally think we're not going to know our finishes... Ironically, the total misname is part of what sold me.

  4. Whoa!!! Just LOOK at that holo!! :P It's still a lovely shade, even if it does have misguided delusions of grandeur. Lovely photos! :)

  6. Oh holo love...if only I bought polishes for the bottle alone. ;) I DO love metallic though <3 and this one is super gorgeous. I wonder how close it is to Zoya Fei Fei. It looks to be in the same color family, but without specks.

    1. I thought the same thing about FeiFei, but the shimmers are so shifting and plentiful that no comparison can really be drawn, if that makes sense. I think maybe in certain lights FeiFei appears more blue (bluer?).

  9. This one looks a bit like OPI's Moonraker. This seems like a cheap alternative :) x

    1. Moonraker! I didn't get any of the Bond OPIs but that one tempted me. I bet you're pretty close... To my memory, Moonraker's a little more silver?

  10. Haha that's totally false advertising. And they knew it too, since they know what holo is by putting the band around the cap. But none-the-less, that's a stellar color! I just love a good metallic! :)

    1. I KNOW! Silly marketers. It is a great color, though, and it *might* even be a little duochrome silver/blue/purple. :)

  11. Hi sis - oh this is so up your alley - right? And looks gorgeous on you - once more beautiful pictures (not tired of reading this yet ;-)?). Maybelline has a weird range of colors here - it looks "momsy" if you know what I mean - row upon row reds, pinks, soft pinks and they come in expensive line USD 11 per bottle which I find steep for this line of products but heck I have totally gone astray in writing here - it definitely is a beautiful neutral and edgy enough to stand out from the crowd <3

    1. Yep, totally up my alley ♥ I agree on the line in general, though, it is very safe... though the speckled polishes they recently put out for summer are nice and on trend, though not for me. Still, it's fun to see a drugstore company thinking outside the box a little. Have you seen those? I can't remember what the collection is called-- Dotty, maybe? But yeah, that's a lot of money to spend on something otherwise unremarkable. As much as I like this color, I'm not sure I would have spent $11 for it, even.
