LynBDesigns So Changeable

 *press sample

One of the coolest things about indie polish companies is the fun and inspired pop culture collections that come out and say something about what the creator likes, music, television, and movie-wise.  Connecting with one yourself is even more fun.

Sherlock Holmes and I go way back, to sitting with my mom and sisters in front of the tube watching the late, great Jeremy Brett on PBS when I was a kid.   When I learned that Jenna of LynBDesigns has a Holmes-inspired polish collection, I was pretty stoked to get my hands on one.  This is So Changeable, inspired by the criminal mind of Sherlock's diabolical archenemy, Professor Moriarty.

So Changeable is a midnight blue jelly packed with tiny, color shifting navy blue glitters that flash teal and purple.  It's so packed that, despite the jelly base, this polish only requires two coats to be fully opaque.  The formula dries very quickly, and I needed to work quickly to apply it evenly.  I used a thin coat first, then I applied a decent sized dollop in the middle of my nail for the second and was able to maneuver it around to full coverage without any flooding or pooling.  It's a little bit thick and not quite what I'd call an "applies itself" polish, but it is dark, rich, and beautiful and totally worth the small bit of extra effort.  So Changeable dries to a satiny finish and I like everything to be super shiny so I used two layers of topcoat.

  2. This is very pretty! You capture the beauty of it perfectly. I love how the light shines on certain parts of your nail and then it darkens around it. Such a cool look:)

    1. Oh, nice observation! It is a really cool polish, sort of chameleon-like.

    1. Thanks, Margo :) There's just so much awesome energy surrounding them, and it's the coolest when you actually get what the creator's trying to communicate.

  6. Oh my goodness...you were a Jeremy Brett fan too? In my mind, he WAS Sherlock Holmes. I confess I had a rather big chip on my shoulder about the new and hip incarnation of Sherlock...but the new series is excellent, and it doesn't hurt that "Benedict Cumberbatch" is the best name ever. :D And this polish is beautiful!! Midnight blue is always a winner. And do you know this is the second Sherlock-themed polish I've seen today? :D

    1. Well... I LOVE the movies. I've been a Robert Downey, Jr. fan since Natural Born Killers (yes, I watched that atrocity) and I love his portrayal of Holmes. Having not read the books I don't know which one is truer to SACD's character, but I do appreciate the difference and the fact that Brett's Holmes thinly veils the mad genius with a proper, gentlemanly appearance...makes him less transparent. I love how Jude Law disappears into the role of Watson and he and RDJ's chemistry is second to none... And Jared Harris is such a disgustingly disaffected Moriarty. I do love the tv show, though, and my mom would agree with your statement about Brett. He was highly entertaining and the show so nicely done. What's the second Sherlock polish? I want to see!

    2. The other collection is by an indie brand called A Study in Polish...how clever is that? :D Oh, and I was referring to the new series Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman...takes place in modern day London. I haven't even seen the movies. :/

    3. Ahh, you did say series, didn't you? I honestly figured Benedict Cumberbatch was a character I couldn't remember in either the JB series of the books (which I haven't read and need to). A modern day Sherlock, eh? It sounds worth a look. If I'd have known about it (we don't have tv, really, only netflix) I probs would have eschewed it in the same way but since you're loving it I want to give it a shot!

    4. Yes...it's on Netflix! Check it out!! I really love it...the bad part is the seasons are only 3 episodes long! :(

  11. Hi Liesl, reading all those comments about all those Sherlock Holmes movies, series made me nearly forget about the polish - but only nearly ;-)!! What a gorgeous color - it looks like the velvet night sky, and your photos just rock, you tempt me badly here, sis ;- P!!
