Hi everyone!! Welcome, new readers, whether you're here because of the giveaway or because you happened upon la blog and liked it enough to follow, I'm glad you're here and I hope you stick around :)
Day 5 in my 12 Days of Christmas Nails spectacular is two polishes from OPI's holiday 2010 Burlesque collection, Take the Stage, a warm, bright, shimmery, red-toned copper metallic, and Extra-Va-Vaganza, a twinkly silver, orange, and light blue glitter topper. I was soooo in love with this collection when it was introduced and I allowed myself only two, but I wish I'd have lived a little dangerously and picked up more, lol. I still think it's one of the best holiday collections ever, even with three similarly toned copper foils in my stash. Apparently, I like this color, and I adore this duo! This was my first experience with glitter and I have to admit I was fascinated (though not with the removal process... I remember first putting this on my toes and being rather horrified at how hard it was to take off, lol).
It's taken this long to convince me that glitters and metallics are meant to be together. ♥♥ The copper of Take the Stage is definitely more of a fall color but the confetti silver with a splash of blue glitter of Extrava-Va-Ganza makes this a festive and non color-traditional holiday look.
So I might be becoming obsessed with hunting the rest of Burlesque down! I'm sure there are, especially with the indie boom, lots of similar glitters, and certainly similar metallics, but this collection holds a special, unexplainable nostalgia for me.
Thank you for reading and have a loverly day!! ♥♥
Well color me amazed, but I love this orange! I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the Burlesque collection when it came out, but now that I look back on it, it was really great. YAY for nostalgia! And YAY for your 12 Days series...it's fabulous and I love it!! <3
ReplyDeleteI hear ya! I surprised myself with the realization that I've actually amassed quite a few coppery polishes. There's a world of difference between this and a full-on nacho cheese orange creme, lol. I'm so glad you're enjoying my leetle series! I'm finding myself more motivated to keep it going than I thought I'd be.
DeleteI agree about the metallics and glitter combo. While I wouldn't typically choose to pair them, they look great together here. I have never seen or heard of either of these. Was I living under a rock when they were released? I am now going to Google the Collection and see what else I am missing. Love the last pic!!!
ReplyDeleteI got my OPIs at an unauthorized store back in the day (in fact, if you look closely you might be able to see where the lot number's been scratched out), and they didn't get every full collection. So I'm unaware if at least as many colors as you are because I only knew of what was in that store, lol. I googled it, too, before writing this, and it seems to have received mixed reviews (from the three bloggers who actually reviewed the full collection, lolol).
DeleteThis looks lovely! I've got a real soft spot for the Burlesque glitters too - I don't have them all but I love the ones I do have. Thanks for reminding me about them - I'll have to wear at least one before Christmas now :)
ReplyDeleteYay!! I'm glad I could inspire you :) I'm on a mission to own Ali's Big Break now (and to find another for my niece of the same name).
DeleteThis is so pretty...what a beautiful combination. I think glitter is such a beautiful finish and does so much for a mani and admire it on everyone (even myself)...but my goodness, taking it off really makes me such unkind things. lol
ReplyDeleteMakes me *say* such unkind things. Lol
DeleteThe whole experience of having to take this off was enough to make my shy away from picking up any more, but I sure wish I'd have just done it, lol. Fortunately (I think, lol), polish seems to chip off in a full sheet so that makes removal nice and easy, lol. That's a lot of lols! lol. ;D
DeleteThis is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, sweets :) I adore this duo.
Deletelovely combination :) Metallics and glitter together, I am gonna try it now :D
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Better than jelly sammiches, if you ask me :)
DeleteHi Liesl - what a beautiful combination - those were released when I was living in bare-nails-land. I do love metallics and glitter together as it adds like another depth to the glitter and creates so much festiviness!!! Have a lovely day xxx
ReplyDeleteI, too, was bare nailed but not bare toed. I totally agree, the metallic backdrop adds another beautiful dimension of shimmer. They're perfectly complementary ♥♥
