Hello and happy first day of Fall! The Zoya Ultra PixieDusts are here, gorgeous texture polishes in red, wine, and berry tones, and sporting a brand new formula. Like the preceding Magical PixieDusts (summer 2014 collection {
HERE}), these three are jelly based, sparkling, and packed with glitter, rather than the shimmer of the originals (fall 2013's Dhara and Arabella swatched {
HERE}); unlike the Magicals, the Ultras feature tonal, metallic small round and larger hex glitters, giving each a glamorous and amped up monochromatic appearance. The Ultras aren't as chunky as the Magicals; the texture bits seem fewer and finer. With the exception of Noir, for some reason, the Ultras much easier to remove; pigmentation is better, also, and each of these polishes is beautiful in two coats.
Oswin is a ruby red true matte finish Pixie. It's got the most densely colored base of the three, and is also the closest match to its glitters. It's a rich, jewel-encrusted appearance in a striking '20s-era red base.

Arianne is a cool red raspberry jelly packed with quinacridone magenta glitters. Arianne looks juicy in the bottle but dries to a semi-matte on the nail. The base is sheerer than Oswin's so the reflective glitters are granted more opportunity to play off the light. I feel like the semi-matteness doesn't lend to a very pretty picture but in real life, Arianne is so elegant; consider it uncapturable beauty.

Noir is a deep, dark, cool black cherry/wine colored base packed with fuschia glitters. It is in Noir that the glitters and base bear the most dramatic difference. Like Arianne, Noir dries to a semi-matte and the glitters are nice and reflective, kind of not at all like my pictures; and, as Arianne is elegant, Noir is miles of glamorous.

Regarding the decidedly non-matte finish of Arianne and Noir, Zoya has issued instructions on how to properly apply the Ultra PixieDusts to their best advantage-- they suggest foregoing basecoat and letting each layer fully dry before adding another. I am not about to wear colors this dark on my nails sans basecoat but I did allow ample dry time between coats. Bottom line, if it's matte you're looking for, Oswin's your gal. As for the other two, do yourselves a favor and check them out in real life, if possible. Here are a couple bloggers with better representations of Noir than I--
My must haves? All three of them. Each has its own unique vibe-- textures in colors I adore, with a little bit of a jolie laide finish. I can't think of much better.
Oswin, Arianne, and Noir are available on
zoya.com for $!0 each or $30 for the sampler set.

Great texture colors for fall these are. I still think I prefer the more sparkly ones though.
ReplyDeleteThese, especially Arianne and Noir, have much more sparkle in real life. I think, if anything, I wish they were actually matte.
DeleteMust have Arianne because gorgeous, and must have Oswin because 1) sexy and 2) as much as Sansa is from Game of Thrones, Oswin is from Doctor Who. Reserving judgment on Noir - that one I'll have to see in person.
ReplyDeleteNoir definitely has to be seen in person. I don't think I would buy it based off any of the swatches I've seen but the right description might pique my interest enough... hopefully mine does, lol :) I wondered if Oswin meant something! Thanks for the info. I've not been able to get into Dr. Who but C is a fan.
DeleteI like all three of these. To me, they have much more class than the Magicals. I think Noir is my favorite. It's got that fruit salad look I like, LOL. And I don't care if Zoya had been naming their stuff after every popular TV chick out there...they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for naming something OSWIN over Melissa.
ReplyDeleteYes!! I knew you would draw some sort of foodie comparison to Noir-- I was thinking cranberry relish, lol (pictures only-- real life is another story). And the fact that Zoya doesn't have a Melissa is downright absurd. Seriously.
DeleteThese do look really good - very tempting :-)
ReplyDeleteThey're fab, Ananka! So fun and different :)
DeleteI never get to paint my nails in anything that doesn't dry quickly anymore. Therefore these are high on the priority list...the problem is picking only one. I should just pick all three I think.
ReplyDeleteYes, all three is good! And on one hand I hear you because I've been reaching for fast and easy a LOT lately but on the other hand I can't even imagine because all I have are two cats and a bass, lolol. I miss your face ♥
DeleteOswin is my favorite out of these. :)
ReplyDeleteRight on :) It's a gorgeous red.
DeleteI just got Oswin, and I love it--one of my 10 favorite polishes of all time!
ReplyDeleteI hope you post about it! It is a gorgeous red ♥
DeleteI thought I didn't need these. Then I saw this post....Guess I'll be ordering them and hoping they look half as gorgeous on me as they do on you. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh, doll, these are so much prettier irl :) You'll rock them on your gorgeous nails <3
