Zoya Posh-- Matte Velvet Collection

*press sample

Hi all!!  Back in 2009, when all I did was paint my toes and OPI was everything, Zoya released two limited edition sets of what they call Matte Velvet polishes, totaling six colors.  They quickly became fan favorites and for five years, guys and gals in the know hoarded their precious Matte Velvets in the hope that Zoya might rerelease them as a full set some day.  Well, that some day is now-- the Zoya Faeries that be held out for long enough and the Matte Velvets, all six of them, are once again available for purchasing and wearing pleasure.  Thank you, Faeries!!  Just... THANK YOU.

So I was sitting around swatching the collection yesterday and I was blown away by the awesomeness of every single one of these, wanting to wear each as a full manicure, and feeling like they each deserve their own post.  I may yet do the former but I won't drag the whole collection out over a series of posts, tempted as I am.  I'm going to indulge in the one that blew me away the most, though, the one I knew I had to come back and post excessive photos of-- not Harlow (I'm saving that one for last, to see if it is worth the hype), but Posh.

Zoya Posh-- Matte Velvet Collection
Posh is a red berry shade packed with gorgeous monochromatic matte shimmer.  It's so fall, so festive, so elegant and luxurious!  It is forgiving of flaws, relatively self leveling, really just about consummately perfect in two coats.  The formula on this is, well, like velvet.  It applies as beautifully and easily as anything.  Dry time is deceptive-- it mattifies before it is fully dry, so take care and be a little bit patient with it.  DO NOT USE TOPCOAT.  No basecoat is also advised, but I used OPI Ridge Filler to these results.

This is what's on my nails today and I don't anticipate it'll last through my morning without chipping, as is the nature of matte polishes in general.  I'll report back on that in the full review, though... Stay tuned!

So what's up with you?  Are you a matte polish fan?  Looking forward to a particular color in this set?

Thank you for reading and have a lovely day!!

    1. Ooh, good call! It feels similar, I imagine; different than my mattifying topcoat, certainly.

  7. A gorgeous colour! I do like mattes but I'm awful for chipping them. I'd probably end up doing a layer of regular TC and then one of matte which kinda defeats the point.

    1. A day later and I can tell you that this lasted beautifully through a rough day of work and my evening bass practice, though it might have more to do with my nail shape than anything... At any rate, I'm quite pleased with these all the way around. I've thought about topcoat then matte tc, too; as long as it looks the same and helps the mani last, the point is totally not defeated :)

  8. This really reminds me of a gorgeous valentine's day shade. I like it. I don't use mattes often but I need to start.

    1. It is a great Valentine's polish, all soft and romantic :) Good call! I don't wear mattes much, either, on account of the terrible wear time but these have been great.

  10. Isn't it amazing how long us beauty junkies will wait for a re-promote?! lol I've patiently waiting for MAC to re-release their Marquis d' lipstick, so far its been three years and nothing. Anyways, this red is really pretty and it doesn't look dry or flat like most matte polishes do! I love it!

    1. It really is! I'd given up on ever owning Harlow... So much awesomeness I missed out on for not being into doing my nails sooner, lol :) I had to google Marquis d" Lipstick-- my gosh, no wonder you're waiting for a rerelease! Now I am, too, and today's the first I've even seen it. Yes, crazy we are, indeed, lol ;)

  13. I have this on today too! It's day two and it hasn't chipped. I've got Nail Tek Foundation II underneath. I have tip wear from playing guitar but that's it! I think that's pretty good for a matte! Posh definitely looks awesome on you. :)

    1. If I wasn't so impatient and wanting to wear the rest of these, I could have easily gone another day :) Guitar! That's awesome! I remember you saying when I first got my bass that we're in the same boat regarding nail length and shape. I must say that, despite all my early warnings, bass is really quite easy on nails and polish, at least at this stage of the game, lol. I don't strum, though-- I think there are probably a lot of different techniques? I'd like to get an acoustic guitar and at least learn some chords, eventually...

    1. YES, I totally agree! I've got Loredana on today and it's equally awesome... something about that matte golden red shimmer, though... Posh still has my heart :)

  16. I really love the look of matte polish but don't like the fact that it chips so quickly. I'll be on the lookout for this one next time I'm at a store that sells Zoya. It's such a great colour.

    1. It really is! And I know it has as much to do with nail shape as anything, but I've now worn three of these as full manicures and they've lasted through a day of hard on my hands work and bass guitar practice with no chips and minimal tipwear.
