Hello hello!! Remember when Cover Girl made nail polishes? I've got one of them on today, called Violet Vamp. In hindsight I could have/should have used today's polish for the letter V, because this one's got them in spades, but instead it gets to be my W color, for Wayback machine. ;)
My very favorite polish from the turn of the century :D was a frosty, shimmery CG nude called Sand Dollar. The line was called NailSlicks and they came in thin, square shaped bottles. I eschewed all things makeup and girly for a couple years, and when next I paid attention, CG's polishes came in a little triangular bottle and some nice, on-trend colors. Violet Vamp was one from the fall of 2005 or 06. Here it is, in two coats.
Violet Vamp is a dark, frosty red-purple with silver, red, and purple shimmer. It's really a pretty shade, but frosty-shimmery is not what I would associate with vampy. Maybe eight years ago it was, lol. I wasn't even painting my fingernails back then, just my toes, and I felt so terribly trendsetting in this color. The formula's stinky, but still really nice to apply. There's one available on ebay right now for $12.99, not including shipping.
Isn't it awesome how long nail polish lasts? I swear I have some from high school and that was a LONG time ago.... I don't own any Covergirl polishes. Oh and I went through a phase when I was in like 8th grade where I thought I was too cool for girly makeup, nail polish, and the color pink. My mom is still surprised when I wear pink. I'm so excited for my daughters' random mood swings - yippeee!!! NOT
ReplyDeleteLol, well, you know more or less what to expect with your girls, right? ;) When I was in school I would say how I disliked anything pink or girly, but secretly I really liked it, lol. Or not so secretly, because my mom and sisters saw right through my facade. Now I let my girly girl flag fly high and proud! :)
Deleteoh I remember those days when I was hoping to break my nail biting habit and got those frosty looking nail polishes.. I thought they were the coolest thing under the sun!! haha! I wouldn't touch them with a stick now! But! I think the shimmery dark colors can still be vampy!! But not frosty =) Violet Vamp looks pretty nice though!
ReplyDeleteAh, you're kind :) Shimmery can definitely be vampy (like those two OPI Germany colors...). I have a few mid 2000s polishes and they're all frosts. I didn't realize that until I pulled this one out. Well, I still like frosty, even though it looks terribly dated. It'll come back, just you wait! ;)
DeleteOoh! Very pretty color! I have one old Cover Girl. It has that gnarly chemical smell that I love. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, dear, you can keep the smell. ;) It is a pretty color though, isn't it? :)
DeleteThis is such a pretty color - perfect for fall!
ReplyDeleteI think so, too. I'm kind of curious how it would look mattified.
DeleteI just LIVE for colors like this! Yummmmmmmmm
ReplyDelete;) You know, this was the first time I've ever worn it as a mani. It is a pretty shade.
DeleteOh, wow! Kicking it old school Liesl! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I sure am! I'm thinking of trotting out the other two CGs I have once I'm done with the challenge.
DeleteIt's a pretty color, though I can see how it might be too frosty to be a vampy (though I personally love frost). I totally didn't know Cover Girl ever made nail polishes. Wonder if they would again, now that it seems like everyone is making nail polishes. :-)
ReplyDelete~ Yun
Oh yeah, I forgot you like frosts, too :) :) Yeah, it makes it decidedly unvampy, but I can't put my finger on how.... I keep expecting to see a new line of CG polishes for that very reason.
