Hi all!! Butter London recently released their spring collection, titled Boho Rock. It's full of muted, neutral makeup and six different nail polishes in natural, earthy shades. The whole thing makes me want to run around the desert in loose hair and flowy skirts, learning to play the guitar to the local cacti. It's a lovely concept. The colors aren't so exciting, though; many feel like reiterations of polishes we've seen from Butter in collections past, sometimes more than once. The company's clearly in love with their coppers (Brown Sugar, Bit Faker, Sunbaker, Shag, and the new Trifle) and their glittery gold toppers (Stratford Honey, West End Wonderland, The 444, and two new ones, Lushington and Lucy in the Sky) and even the cremes in this set feel already done, either in core line or in last year's more interesting spring collection of candy colored pastels. I get to show you Lucy in the Sky, which is actually not a topper but a gorgeous full coverage glitter.
Lucy in the Sky is a very densely packed coarse champagne glitter generously interspersed with iridescent and holo glitters that flash bright gold, teal, and violet, in a pale peachy-tan base. The base color is all but obscured by the density of the glitter. I used two coats for complete coverage. It's really a remarkable combination of demure and sparkle, both neutral and flashy-- sort of an amped up version of All Hail the Queen. It used two layers of HK Girl Glisten & Glow topcoat to smooth out the surface.
So, do you need this? If you're choosing just one from the Boho Rock collection, based on promo shots and the scant amount of swatches available, Lucy in the Sky is it, a unique standout in a pretty but not particularly innovative collection.
Lucy in the Sky retails for $15 on Butter London's website and where Butter London polishes are sold.
Thank you for reading and have a beautiful day!! ♥

Gorgeous neutral glittery shade! I'm in love! Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day, Lisa!! It is a pretty little glitter :)
Deleteooooh so pretty! I wish these weren't so expensive!
ReplyDeleteYou and me, both. I'm still lemming after the flakies sets, lol ♥
DeleteI really like this one! I'm digging that teal sparkle. Full coverage glitter is lovely when it's so tiny and dense. <3
ReplyDeleteYa know what I just thought of? Shimmer Polish. It looks like they took a page out of Shimmer's book for this one! Purty purty purty!!! And I very much appreciate and concur with your honest review, Liesl. :)
DeleteMelissa, I agree! The teal and violet make this special :D
DeleteEmily, this could totally be a Shimmer in another life! That's another interesting thing about this one, and part of an ongoing phenomenon of mainstream companies giving their take on the whole indie trend. It seems that they miss, more often than not, but this is a hit, for sure. Butter's rep for fantastic formulae remains intact :)
DeleteGAH. I want this. I have a lot of semi-dupes for the new shades but I really want this, Lushington and Trallop for the names. Dilemma!
ReplyDeleteWell, a good name is next to impossible to resist, lol. There seems to be an ever so slightly green tint to Lushington, and I'm excited to see that one irl.
DeleteSuch a gorgeous full coverage glitter! It certainly lives up to it's namesake!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it pretty?! And I agree, such a perfect name :D
DeleteMais c'est fantastique she squealed and threw her arms up in the air! Yes, I find this very Marie-Antoinette like!!! Very brocade, opulent yet fashion forward. And what is it with everybody and their brothers errr sisters that they all launch nude shade collections? Mind you, no complaints from over here but still... And I would love to see you singing to that cacti - still Rolling on the floor laughing... :-D
ReplyDeleteOoh, fashion forward, ehh? I never would have pegged it as such! Cool perspective, sis :) It's not the amount of nudes coming out of the woodwork (I loooove the Zoya Naturels) but rather the unoriginality of this collection in relation to the rest of the BL catalog... Last year was so fresh and fabulous and my standards are a little high, but maybe I'm also losing sight of what the company seems to be about (and in part why I like them so much).
DeleteI totally agree about BL - my take on this Brand is the same. In my view Zoya "owns" the idea for those neutral collections, I think they were even before Opi and this year's neutralsby Zoya so far are the best I have seen!!!
DeleteThis is actually very beautiful! Hey...did you ever get 444??? I totally forgot about that guy.
ReplyDeleteI didn't! It never showed up at my Ulta and I didn't want to pay shipping online for it. I think this one's prettier, anyway :)
DeleteThere IS definitely a slight greenish tint to Lushington, and for that reason I gave mine away... just wasn't flattering on me... too bad, because I like the idea of a glitter that's slightly less glitzy, more "downtown" than up.
DeleteMaya, that's a great way to put it! I'm not huge on glitters in general but I really like that observation. Bummer that Lushington didn't work for you.
