butter LONDON Summer 2014 Lolly Brights-- WINK Mascara and Eye Pencil

Hello friends!!  Welcome to the third and final installment of Butter London week a la LLPT!  Today I have two of the Lolly Brights eye cosmetics, and I admit to having NO CLUE what to do with this stuff when I opened my package.  The aqua blue tube is a mascara, called Chav, and the pencil is an eyeliner called Cheerio (so cute, lol).

The mascara, Chav, is a thick, creamy, and highly pigmented Tiffany blue (think the mascara equivalent of Poole).  It's more for color than definition and more than one coat requires a quick comb through to get rid of clumps.  It's super bright, though, showing up on lashes in a big way.
The eyeliner, Cheerio, is also very pigmented, and a bright, sunny yellow with a hint of sparkle.  I'm not well versed in eyeliners at all, as I prefer lining with powder and a brush, so I'll do my best to describe this.  It's got a fairly creamy formula and the nice thing about it was that I didn't have to rub off any waxy overlay before I actually got to the color, if that makes sense.  It's pure color right away.  It pulls against the lashline a bit and clumps up a little if you go over your line more than once.

Pretty extreme, right?  Butter London seems to like centering their makeup collections around a very bold eye and I've figured out that the trick is learning how to meld these colors with your regular, day to day neutrals.  I lined my top lashes with black liquid liner and coated with black mascara; I lined my bottom lashes with Cheerio, muted it with a charcoal grey powder liner, and coated with Chav mascara.

I'm actually pretty stoked about this look!  While it's certainly not something I'd wear every day, it's really quite fun and will work well with the sheer, tinted lipglosses, particularly the soft magenta Twee.

So what do you think?  Are you a fan of bright, bold, and unconventional, willing to step outside the box, or is eye makeup this bright just not happening with you?

Chav mascara is available for $20 and Cheerio eye pencil for $18 on Butter London's website and where Butter London products are sold.

    1. Thanks, Lisa :) I'd wear this anywhere, if I had a mind to, just for the halibut :)

  2. I had some Avon mascara and eyeliner the exact color of Chav when I was a teenager. I only wore black eyeliner and black everything then, so when I wore my new fancy colors to work, everybody asked me if I was sick. :P The yellow actually does compliment your eyes...I'd love to see it on you with brown or black/brown mascara.

    1. Lolol :) I bet that was a bit of a shock, from all black to all aqua. I've always thought the idea of colored mascara is really fun, but only in theory... I tried wearing darker colors (like blue and purple) when I was younger but I never liked how it looked-- not enough definition, mainly. Thanks for saying about the yellow. I have major reservations with that color anywhere close to my face.

  3. My oh MY these are BRIGHT!!! :O I guess that's pretty apt since they're from the Lolly Brights collection! LOL I applaud you for being brave enough to try these... talk about going outside the proverbial makeup case! I don't know if I'd be as brave. I just bought L'Oreal's Endless Sea 24hr Infallible eyeshadow and that was pretty bold! Actually, come to think of it, it's about the color of Chav! But very shimmery and shifty between turquoise, aqua, and a hint of sea green. I'm gonna tone it down with some taupes and browns. :)
Gosh every time I read "Chav" all I can think of is Chava, the 2nd oldest daughter from Fiddler. hehe! Michelle and I were reminiscing about Fiddler a LOT this weekend, so that just miiight have something to do with it. ;)

    1. Brave enough, nothing, lol. I didn't go out with this but I was pleased enough to do so :) In thin lines, such as it is, it's easier to take. I couldn't do a Mimi from Drew Carey thing, like, EVER. Toning down is essential in my book, though I certainly admire those who can rock bold colors with confidence. Those Infallibles are intense! I had four and they were never used, so I got rid of them, and part of it's my eye color, I'm sure. I bet that Endless Sea looks gorgeous on your eyeses :D

  4. Wonderful post sis!!! And I love BL's take on eye color - a bit reminiscent of Shiseido in the 80ies, no? I think you got the knack of using them just perfectly, a little here and there is the way to go I am sure. If I go bold then I split colors like a bright Kajal on my lower lashline and some color sprinkling on my upper lashes, but tips only. Or diagonaly opposed like corner lower lashline and inner corner upper lashline and so on - I find the options very wide!!! xxx

    1. Ohhhh, is that what you meant regarding the glosses? Has BL revived an sld Shiseido collection? I honestly knew nothing of the brand until I was in my very early 20s. Let's just say that their skin are is a spendy thing to get yourself hooked on, lol. It took the whole getting-married-and-reality-setting-in for me to kick that habit, lol. You've known for a while what I just figured out about color! It's like this world is revealing itself ever so slowly to me, lol.
