Zoya Wishes-- Winter 2014 |
I've had some trouble trying to figure out exactly what vibe the Zoya faeries were going for when they created this year's winter collection, titled Wishes. It's equal parts rich, dark, and cold, anchored by another trio of Pixiedusts and supplemented by a complementing creme, frost, and microshimmer.
Zoya Haven-- Wishes 2014 |
Haven is a cool plum with monochromatic microshimmer. It's a nice purpley-red with a touch of black (which makes this color somewhat unique in the sea of fuschia/magenta microshimmers) and has a decent amount of depth. Haven has a typically nice Zoya formula, opaque in the standard two coats, and finished with one layer of topcoat.
Zoya Thea-- Wishes 2014 |
Thea is what Zoya is now calling a Magical Pixiedust, but it bears next to no resemblance to either of the previous Magical Pixiedusts (spring 2014 {HERE} and summer 2014 {HERE}). The only constant with any of these Pixiedust sets is the fact that the formula changes each and every time. As for this season's set, they're more like this fall's Ultra Pixiedusts {HERE} in that there is nothing matte about them. Another difference still is that these are barely textured. They're lacking the texture bits that made the Pixiedusts what they are (I should say were)-- these are basically chunky, topcoat hungry glitters in a jelly base, and it's always kind of bugged me when companies take their bumpy glitters and try to call them "textured".
Anyways, Thea is a plum jelly based Pixiedust with silver, lavender, and holographic glitters. The formula is nice, and the color lovely. I'm not a fan of the finish, at all. I could slap on a couple layers of topcoat to try and smooth it out, but why? That's not the point of these. Two coats.
Zoya Willa-- Wishes 2014 |
Willa fills a space long empty in Zoya's lineup-- a straightforward black creme. It's a good one, too-- amazing formula, glossy and opaque in two coats. This is where it's at for me. I love this one. I wish they'd have named it Liesl. lol. Finished with one layer of topcoat.
Zoya Imogen-- Wishes 2014 |
Imogen is a black jelly based Magical Pixiedust with a whole lot of silver small and medium hex glitters and a few holographic hexes. Some gals are digging this one. I think it's a mess. The base reads as a syrupy molasses on the edges and the silver glitters feel incohesive. Make your own judgments-- this one's not for me. Two coats.
Zoya Prim-- Wishes 2014 |
Prim is a frosty, icy, pale silvery blue. It's gorgeous. It's got application issues, but if you're super careful (which I was), you can avoid brushstrokes. There's a new technique being used to apply frosty polishes in which you sponge the color on rather than brush, and that supposedly eliminates frost lines altogether (I've never tried it). It is worth it to figure this beauty out. Two coats, one layer of topcoat.
Zoya Nori-- Wishes 2014 |
Nori is, in my opinion, the most successful iteration of this crop of bumpy glitter being passed off as texture Pixiedusts. Zoya just has a way with blue and glitter and this is the ONLY one of these three in which I feel the texture-ish-ness might actually translate... or maybe I'm just forgiving it because Nori is so deep and watery and gorgeous. Depending on how sold you are on this particular finish, you may or may not be happier with Charla, or Muse, or Remy. Two coats.
All in all, Wishes is a pretty risky collection. My picks are Willa and Prim. The Pixiedusts are available for sale on zoya.com for $10 each and the smooth finishes are available for $9 each.
Where to find Zoya
One more thing-- this Monday, December 1, is Cyber Monday and Zoya's got something big planned... follow {THIS LINK}. That's all I know.
Thank you for reading and have a lovely day!! ♥

Lovely swatches of these. I really like the textures.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa!! Glad the textures are speaking to you :)
DeleteThanks for sharing! I love this collection...I need to get several of these colors. Thanks for sharing the Cyber Monday surprise as well...I haven't seen this anywhere yet. I assumed since it said "Add to Cart" that you can purchase them now, so I may have...
ReplyDeleteLol, right on! I'm excited to see what these boxes are all about. Glad you're digging this collection :) :)
DeleteI totally agree with you on these! I was super bummed out because I loved the first and second set of the magical pixie dusts and would have loved them in these colors....but these were just blah.
ReplyDeleteYes. These and the Ultras (I'm still sad about Noir). I feel like the jelly finish looks sloppy.
DeleteThanks for sharing! Honestly, I was disappointed in the lack of texture in these polishes, but I think the colors are beautiful. I wish they would bring back the original Pixie Dust formula, as it was the only one I truly loved.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are beautiful but like another blogger said, it seems like Zoya's forgotten how to make Pixies. Maybe these aren't meant to be super textured or matte, you know? It seems like the originals were the most universally loved... I like the original Magicals best, myself.
DeleteVery pretty shades.... but I hate that they make changes on the pixie dusts, I really did enjoy the originals.
ReplyDeleteTotally! The colors are gorgeous as always, just stop messing with your formula, Zoya! lol.
DeleteBeautiful collection!
ReplyDeleteZoya does come up with the prettiest colors :)
DeleteI agree with you 100% not fond of these new pixies. Imogen reminds me of asphalt. :( Haven is my favorite. When I applied Prim I did one coat, let it dry, then sponged the 2nd coat. Definitely minimized brushstrokes.
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it because there's usually a redeeming quality but Imogen is just :p. SOme folks are saying it looks like what Essie Belugaria wanted to be but I disagree, Belugaria's got it all over this one. LOVE Prim. Prim was a total pleasant surprise ♥
DeleteNori is gorgeous! What I really need to get my hands on, though, is Willa. I've been needing to buy a great creme black!
ReplyDeleteWilla is fabulous, formula, brush, everything. The only black creme I can say is better is a-England Camelot and that's because it's a one coater.
DeleteI loved Prim from the first time I saw it. It reminds me so much of my wedding polish, Revlon Not So Blueberry. <3 I also like Haven a lot because, well, me. Willa indeed looks just like you, and it's quite glossy and classy looking. It's weird Zoya keeps changing the formula on Pixie Dusts. It makes you wonder if they like to keep their fans guessing. By the way, I deliberately did not ready anybody else's Wishes reviews until you did yours. :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhh yes, I can't believe I didn't make the connection! Soooo are you going to get Prim and Haven?? :) Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with the Pixies. There seem to be enough gals who like these that they're not going down in flames, and to each, their own, of course... My favorites have been the spring and summer Magicals and I know those did not actually go over well, either... Maybe it's just time to retire the idea.
DeleteI'm highly flattered by that ♥♥ It must've been difficult! I have to look at every collection post I see, like, immediately :D
Great photos. I've been so tempted by this collection, especially the Pixies :-)
ReplyDeleteYou might love them, Ananka, especially if you don't mind the fact that they're not matte (and to be honest, I'm not sure these were even marketed as such). And thank you ♥♥
