L'Oreal Sparkling Soirée Holiday 2014-- Almost Midnight

As much as I love to wear purple clothes, sweaters, coats, shoes, bathrobe, lol, purple nail polishes have never been my forte.  Maybe it's because of the superfluity of the color in my wardrobe-- I'd rather something more complementary and less matchy-matchy.  Maybe it's those elegant bottles and brushed gold caps, or maybe it's the fact that this purple leans warm and dusky and not cool and royal.  L'Oreal Almost Midnight, from the holiday 2014 Sparkling Soirée collection, spoke volumes to me.

I think what I like most about Almost Midnight is its dusky plum tone.  Indigos and blurples seem to abound but dark plum feels like a relative rarity to me.  It wears a little bit darker on the nail than it appears in the bottle and so is a little more vamp than I'd prefer in this type of shade.  If I'm going to go all dark and glam, I prefer wine and black, and for less glam and more elegant I choose deep navy (a la Zoya Ryan).  So as pretty as this color is, it's not going to get a whole lot of wear time.  The polish itself is nice.  L'Oreal cremes tend to need three coats and this one follows suit, but the coats are not overly thick; finished with one layer of topcoat.

My budding nailista niece Ali had a very specific manicure idea in mind when I went to her house last night to spend time with my seester.  We used Essence Choose Me! (a discontinued Zoya Charla copy) as the base and NOPI Love Your Life on top.  Dabbing heart glitter on little nails is pretty easy, as it turns out!  She's learning how to hold a good swatch position, too (her tante just needs to make it a point to pack her cleanup tools whenever she comes to visit).

Thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your weekend!! ♥
