Sinful Colors Citrine

Hi friends, happy Halloween!!

I mentioned yesterday that I picked up two new Sinfuls during Walgreens' recent 2 for $3 sale.  This one is Citrine, a rerelease for this Halloween and a bright red-orange creme.  The gemstone citrine is actually a deep golden with amber hued facets (which would also make a pretty fantastic polish, if you ask me), but this polish is gorgeous just the same, and that is not a word I regularly use when describing orange shades.

Citrine's another spot-on perfection creme from Sinful, amazing formula and elementary application.  I feel there is no excuse for any high end company's formula to be lacking when this humbly priced brand has absolutely nailed it.  I used two coats of polish and one layer of topcoat.

Citrine speaks so much to me is because it's so bright and lively, but with an elegant feel to it, made so by the touch of red.  It's also another reason why I love creme finishes so much-- the finish is classic and decidedly grown up, so those of us whose tastes lean conservative can feel a little more uninhibited with our color choices.  Citrine is equally at home paired with a little black dress as with jeans and a cute pair of boots.  It's a brilliantly fun, yet decorous, pop of color.

And that's all, folks!  Anyone dressing up today?  I've got some wild pink eye makeup I recently received as a gift that I think I'll trot out today, but beyond that, I'll be rocking the slacks and work smock, lol.  Thank you for reading and be safe tonight ♥♥

  1. "I feel there is no excuse for any high end company's formula to be lacking when this humbly priced brand has absolutely nailed it." How true is that? And what in the SMACK?? How on earth can you make orange look this marvelous??

P.S. I am certain you'll be on that list. <3

    1. Maybe it's just a better color for my skin than the yellower oranges? At any rate, it's not a color I'm typically drawn to but this one I really like :) Maybe that's how, lol-- it was done with honest to goodness enthusiasm :)
And thank you for your support and all your votes of confidence <3 The list is out and I'm not on it, but I am in good company.

    1. Yun you are so sweet and I thank you for your support <3 Not it, though, lol. It's okay because now I don't have to develop a complex over all the votes I won't get :)

    2. Oh noes, I just saw. I am so sorry, Liesl. But quite frankly, the loss is theirs.

  3. I hope me crossing all Fingers and toes for that RBL thing helped!!! Citrine indeed is one gorgeous orange and on you it looks as it has just the right dose of red in it to set it apart from the vast sea of traffic warden shades!!! Love it <3! As for Citrine: I always think of Jade Mystic Gold when I think Citrine in polish ;-)

    1. Not this time, but thank you for your support ♥♥ Traffic warden shades, lolol! :) That's just it. Either that or nacho cheeeese. :p I totally agree about Mystic Gold resembling Citrine in polish. Good call, sis ♥

    2. Oh I am so, so sorry!!! I would have LOVED you in that group - you would make such a difference and while I am sure the selected Bloggers are excellent, I am just slightly tired of the ever repeated "two coats was all blablabla", oh well.... next time then xxx

  4. I can't wait to find out if you are in the top 10. If they happened to have missed you, that must mean that your pics got lost in the shuffle because one look at your photos, it would be a no-brainer.

  5. I have Citrine and I just love it, completely agree with you on the formula, its excellent. If only all brands could do this at such a great pice!

    1. Exactly! So great that Sinfuls exist in the polish world for that very reason, though :)

  6. Personally, I'm bummed that you didn't make it into the top 10 because I totally would have voted for you! Phooey!

Also, I think a polish actually inspired or based on citrine (or amber, for that matter) would be amazing.

This is gorgeous... love your photos as per usual. I haven't made it to a drug store in weeks so I'm way behind with what's out there.

    1. That totally warmed my heart ♥♥♥♥ And yeah, this is a really cool color. It's been in my head since I saw it on Nouveau Cheap (I think) earlier in the month. I hope you can sneak a quick visit in one of these days!

  7. First of all, I seriously cannot believe RBL did not choose you! :( They really missed out on a A+++ blogger for reals. I know you said it's all good & you're happy for those that were chosen, but still... *throws a kiddie tantrum* NO FAIR! :( I'm very sorry, hon. :(
Now I can focus on the polish - at hand - HA! :P too ;) I'm not real big on orange (coral, YES!), but this is quite nice! There's a certain je ne sais quois about it... And you are right on for saying high end brands should certainly be able to give us good formulas if modest Mr. SC can!
I just realized what this polish reminds me of: blood oranges (or at least the pics of them on the cans of Pellegrino Italian soda). :) That would be a MUCH more apropos name for this shade, don't you agree?
P.S. I love your use of the word "decorous!" To me, it is one of those words that sounds like what it means. :) And I know there's a term for that, but at the moment I can't think of it. lol

    1. Em, you're such a doll. We all have certain aesthetics we like best, though, and I'm aware I'm not everyone's cup of tea ;) It was a bit of a bummer, but it's all good.
YES to the blood orange analogy! And that is my favorite citrus fruit, too, they're so gorgeous and so tastie! It also makes me desire a deep purple jelly alit with fiery red orange shimmer.
Is onomatopoeia the word you're looking for?

    2. Teeheehee! Ok, doll! But I still don't understand how you couldn't be someone's cup of tea...I mean, your photos are perfect, your cutes & nails themselves are always in tip top condition, the polish is applied very neatly, and your writing style is candid & educated. So what's not to love?! Sheesh.
Hm don't you have a Penelope Luz jelly that sorta fits that bill? :)
Onomatopoeia is sorta what I'm talking about...but not exactly? Saying "decorous" just sounds...decorous! Onomatopoeia is more like, ZOOM or something...

  8. You should be a manicurist on the side. Your swatches are so darn perfect! This is so bright and beautiful.

    1. Aw <3 I don't know how I'd do on someone else's hands... I imagine it's sort of like French braiding. I could always do a better job on myself than on my little sisters.
