Good evening, everyone! It's been forever since I posted something this late in the day. It feels odd, lol.
I started my leetle Christmas nail series all motivated but here it is, the 18th, and I'm only on Day 7. Sickness, holiday goings-on, and a sudden influx of collections needing to be swatched all tend to waylay the best laid plans... or something.
I started my leetle Christmas nail series all motivated but here it is, the 18th, and I'm only on Day 7. Sickness, holiday goings-on, and a sudden influx of collections needing to be swatched all tend to waylay the best laid plans... or something.
Day 7 is Julep Helena, one stunning color in a classic and unflashy finish, because sometimes, less is more and simplicity makes the biggest statement. Helena is a fuchsia creme/jelly hybrid. It came to me in my December 2012 Julep Maven box as the sole color and I immediately knew why. It's a color you think you've seen before and you wouldn't be entirely wrong. During summer, it's translated as a bright pink with a lot of red, or as a neon purple. For winter, it's given a heaping dose of blue pigment, enough to make it dark and cool, yet bright and lively. Helena is a remarkable shade.
Helena's formula is wonderful. I don't say this much about this brand but this color was easy as pie to apply, tall, thin bottle and stemlike brush notwithstanding. It's a nice level of thickness and doesn't pool. The "crelly" finish makes this sheer enough that a hint of nail line visible, despite how richly pigmented this is. I used two easy coats of polish and one layer of topcoat and had no cleanup. What you see is exactly how I applied it.
Helena doesn't show up as available on Julep's site at the moment and I don't know if that's because it's just out of production now or if they retired the color. Maybe one of you diehard Mavens could enlighten me? I did notice that Billie Jean is a similar shade in a creme formula (and YOU'RE WELCOME for the earworm, lol).
Thank you for reading, as always, and have a lovely night!! ♥♥
What a pretty color! Love it on you :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, sweets ♥
Deletegorgeous shade :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteMe, too :)
DeleteThis is one beautiful shade!! I love the heavy blue in it. <3 And I love a crelly. And I LOVE no cleanup. It's so pretty I keep scrolling back up to look at your photos...
ReplyDeleteLolol, scroll back up-pretty is always a good thing :) It's pretty much perfect, this one.
DeleteI'm in love with this color!!!!
ReplyDeleteMe, too! I've had it for two years and I can't believe it's taken me this long to talk about it, lol.
DeleteHey Liesl, YESSSSS less is more sometimes and this simple yet intricate polish is a perfect example! I really came to love those transluscent polishes as it has something light as a feather about them. I love the part about the formula too - we might finally embark to new shores with those crellies and jellies and leave the runny wastelands behind us - gorgeous post in every aspect <3
ReplyDeleteYou're so poetic, sis <3 I wish all Juleps had formulas like this one. And sadly, this one's not even made anymore! If the price is right I'll still pick one up here and there. Something about the bottles, lol :)
DeleteThis color is awesome! It reminds me of one of my favorites...Zoya Reagan. You make me want to wear it again:)
ReplyDeleteReagan's always been one of my faves on you! I'm surprised I never drew the parallel. Both are gorgie :D
