Hey guys and gals!! You know I like going super minimalist with my makeup much of the time, and that includes primer and tinted lip balm and that's IT, and I gravitate towards reds (of course). I was in Target the other day specifically to scope out e.l.f. and to see if they had any tinted balms, and they do-- two. They're not particularly exciting, either-- a light pink and a nude. I went ahead and bought the nude balm because, well, e.l.f. honestly has yet to let me down and for around $3, it's practically risk free. Plus, it's a balm! If I don't love the tint, I can wear it around the house on days I don't plan on going anywhere and get my money's worth that way.
The tube is small and sleek (about half the size of my photo), in a matte black case with a thin band around the center indicating the color inside. I really love e.l.f.'s packaging. It's so spare and elegant and so much prettier than every other drugstore brand. This balm is also SPF 15, a definite plus, as my favorite lip balms (including non tinted ones, like EOS and Alba Coconut Creme) don't have any.
I knew, as soon as I saw the color bullet, that I was going to love the consistency. You know how some balms look really shiny in the tube, like they're just going to kind of sit on your lips and look pretty, but not really provide any benefits? This one actually looks like it'll sink in and moisturize, and it's true, it does. It's the best feeling tinted lip balm I've tried. It feels great going on and sinks in almost immediately. Bonus points because the bullet is so thin, and therefore easy to control how much color is deposited on your lips.
The color itself is not for me. Nude is quite pretty-- a yellow based tan, almost light copperish color against my skin, with a very subtle pearlescent shimmer. But, it's not flattering on my lips at all. Rather than give a healthy my lips but better look, it's a little too close to my skin's actual color.
So, this balm becomes a bum around the house color. I'd love it if e.l.f. adds a red and a broader spectrum of pinks to their balm collection, because like I said, this feels fantastic and I'd definitely buy and wear these regularly in my correct shades.
And, I'm off to get my hair trimmed! I'm on the fence about wanting to do something totally different and just chop it, but I know I'd miss my length and the ability to put it all up in a topknot at will. Still, I'm feeling restless today, lol. I'll post a photo on my instagram if anything interesting happens.
Thank you for reading, as always, and enjoy your Saturday! ♥♥
Great review on this lip balm. Nice to hear you like the feel of it but not the color. At least you can still wear it around the house :)
ReplyDeleteExactly :) I just checked e.l.f.'s website and these are nowhere to be found so maybe they're just being discontinued. Bummer.
DeleteAre you a 100% lip balm girl, or do you ever wear a stain? I can't remember. I used to wear a stain with a lip balm over it...turns out I'm so oily that the stain would bleed. :/
ReplyDeleteI've never tried a stain. Are those moisturizing? Unless it's saturated and matte, it has to be moisturizing.
DeleteIt's just like using a marker on your lips. And that color doesn't come off either.
DeleteHappy end of Saturday! Your lips look so healthy with this!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! And you think so?... I feel like I'm trying to turn myself into a gold statue.
DeleteHi Liesl - great review!!! Those elf packages really come classy, I like the simplicity. I think this would look great on darker complections - I tried nude with gold in gloss and balms too and eeeks did not work with my pale complexion AT ALL!! I keep them though in my bag to touch up my lips during the day (I cannot be bothered with brush and lipstick and what have you). I agree though too few balms in red and pink - I had to splurge on YSL balms :-o!!! <3
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, this is definitely a darker complexion color and it'd be lovely on the right person. I'll stick to gold on my nails and keep the discordance of it on my face at bay. I'll have to check out these YSL balms! That would be a fun splurge.
DeleteThe YSL have a beautiful pink/redish one and I have a more orange leaning one - they are both stellar
DeleteOoh a haircut... how exciting! I know what you mean about feeling like having something new. I just got my hair cut a few weeks ago, and I went through the same dilemma. I kept seeing all these gorgeous short haircuts. But I ended up not having the stomach to chop it all off and just got a few inches, as per usual haha. :)

That's exactly what I ended up doing, lol. Sometimes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! :)
DeleteThis looks right up my alley. I don't like to go all out with my makeup all the time and this looks like it will be perfect as a nakey face lippy ;-) I normally glance over the e.l.f products at the store most of the time because I have impatient kiddos in the cart BUT I do swear immensely by their black liquid liner. It's $1 and is like GOLD!!! So, their balms should be no different!! Love the sleek packaging too, a win all around!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to try that eyeliner! I've been using (and really liking) a L'Oreal liquid liner (too lazy to get up and look at the name, plus there's a cat on my lap) but I find myself increasingly up for new things in this department, lol, especially if it's e.l.f.
